Appropriate Assessment (AA)
Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants have extensive experience of undertaking AAs for a variety of projects. An Appropriate Assessment (AA) is required by the EU Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC) where a project (or plan) would be likely to have a significant effect on a European, Natura 2000 designated site, either alone or in combination with other plans or projects.
ECOLOGICAL IMPACT ASSESSMENT (EcIA)
Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants have extensive experience of undertaking EcIAs for a variety of projects.
Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA) is a process of identifying, quantifying and evaluating any potential effects of proposed developments on habitats, species and ecosystems. The findings of an assessment can help the competent authorities understand ecological issues when determining planning applications for consent.
EcIA can be used for the appraisal of projects of any scale, including the ecological component of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
BIODIVERSITY & REWILDING
For several years, Flynn Furney Environmental Consultants have been delighted to work on projects that will lead to enhancement of biodiversity at local or greater levels. These include projects that are specifically dedicated to the creation or expansion of valuable habitat types. In 2020 we assisted Monaghan County Council in the creation of a Biodiversity Park in Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan. In 2019 we worked with Cooney Architects on the design of a biodiversity-friendly park in Robertstown, Co. Kildare. In 2021 we wrote the Biodiversity and Development Plan for Monaghan – a Biodiversity Town. We are very happy to be developing the new Biodiversity Plan for County Cavan.
ECOLOGICAL SURVEYS
Across our team we have expertise over a range of habitat types and species groups. We have in-house capability for bird, fisheries and mammal surveys. We also have expertise in specialised areas including marine mammal observation (MMO) and Hen Harrier vantage point (VP) surveys. We are also expert in the use of River Habitat Survey (RHS) methodology.
On-Site Ecology & Management Plans
Flynn Furney has extensive experience in providing ecological supervision for a range of construction projects, including drainage and sewerage schemes, windfarms, flood relief schemes and more. We can prepare tailored Construction Environmental Management Plans (CEMPs) for each project, as well as fulfilling the role of Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) where required.
